For sale is this supercool 1972 Fender Stratocaster in custom colour Black with the white undercoat. All original finish. The guitar has a lot of lacquer cracks all over the body, both front and back are heavily crazed. One long crack to the finish on rear of body is not a wood crack, it’s a finish crack only ! Dints and dings in all the usual places. There are no extra holes in the body, and no extra routing under the scratchplate, it is all factory original.
3 fibre bottomed pickups with ink stamps I cant make out. They have staggered poles and all sound like they should. 3 way switch, pots dated 1377142 which is October 1971. Extra earth wires have been soldered to the pots at some time, most likely to cure some excess hum, which is inherent in single coil pickup guitars.
The maple neck has edge wear and chips in the finish. It has had an extra string tree added, which is what fender got around to doing later on. Decal and finish on the neck are also all original. Base of the neck has ink stamp 0903 1224 which means 09(Strat) 03(maple neck) 12(week) 2(year) 4(day of the week).
There are two extra screw holes in the face of the neck heel, but they do not line up with a 4 bolt neck plate. I have no idea what for, send me your email address for extra pics if you need see that, or anything specific.
Has some changed parts, the tuning machines look new to me. The control knobs may be replacements as they are a different shade of plastic to the scratchplate.
Serial number on neck plate is 356157.
Plays and sounds great! This is nice vintage guitar, not a pristine museum piece by any means.
Comes with the case seen in the pics, correct 1972 tail less logo case with no busted catches or hinges.
